It doesn’t
take long to fall under Whistler’s spell.
World-class
skiing, mountain-top chalets and breathtaking scenery
await visitors of this cosmopolitan mountain village,
just a two hour drive along the Sea to Sky Highway
from Vancouver. Visitors can come and enjoy everything
this town of 10,000 has to offer, including the breathtaking
vistas and the shops, cafes and pubs of the pedestrian-only
Whistler Village.
Much of Whistler's
well deserved fame is due to its two spectacular mountains,
Whistler and Blackcomb. Together they offer more than
7000 acres of skiable terrain! As a testament to the
superb skiing of the area, Vancouver-Whistler will
host the 2010 Winter Olympic Games from February 12th
to 28th, followed by the Paralympic Games from March
12th to 21st.
When it’s
time to call it a day, visitors will enjoy skiing
directly to their door from the 200 runs and 33 ski
lifts of Whistler and Blackcomb. The resort is known
to have the highest number of ski in/ski out accommodations
in North America, making it both convenient and enjoyable
for visitors.
In the summer,
the scenery is equally stunning, with glimmering
lakes reflecting impressive mountains. A series of
festivals promise to keep visitors entertained with
comedians, dancers and jugglers, as well as locally-made
unique arts and crafts.
In the fall,
Oktoberfest celebrates beer and bratwurst, while every
Sunday throughout the year, locals and visitors alike
converge at the base of Blackcomb Mountain to enjoy
the Farmer’s Market.
Adding to
the enchantment of Whistler is its rich First Nations
heritage, celebrated every August during Weetama:
Whistler's Celebration of Aboriginal Culture. History
buffs will also enjoy a visit to the Whistler Museum
and Archives.
The spectacular
year-round adventures may first draw you here, but
it’s the scenery, people, culture, restaurants
and entertainment that will keep you coming back.
